The MOTHEROTHER launch event took place on 31st January 2023 at The NewBridge Project in Newcastle upon Tyne. Special guests included Hettie Judah, Sofia Barton, Sara Qaed, Rosie Morris and Lady Kitt.


Artist Meet-Up Two: Get Real!

On 18th April 2023 at Pop Recs, Sunderland, MOTHEROTHER met to Get Real about the experiences of art working as a caregiver. Laura Brewis and Helen Pailing shared their stories and worked with group to develop Care Riders.


Artist Meet-Up Three: Re-emergence

MOHEROTHER met at The NewBridge Project on 18th July 2023. With special guests Catherine Bertola and Cheryl Gavin, we explored strategies for artists who have begun their caregiving journey and are attempting to balance their work and caring responsibilities.


Artist Meet-Up Four: Unseen

As part of the Middlesbrough Art Week, on 6th October 2023 we met at The Auxiliary Project Space and were joined by Sarah Maple, Rumana Yasmin and Nic Golightly to talk about what in means to be UNSEEN.


Artist Meet-Up Five: Seasons of Change

We were joined by Tahmina Ali, Chantal Herbert, Leila d’Aronville and Lizzie Klotz on 23rd January 2024 when we explored ideas around intersectionality and the varying experiences of carers at different stages in their caregiving journeys.


Artist Meet-Up Six: It takes a Village

On April 20th 2024 we met with Middlesbrough’s Brotherhood of Motherhood to ask: What mechanisms of support do we use, need or wish for? Special Guests Miki Rogers, Ree Kirkbride and Aimee Charlotte set the scene, relaying their personal journeys in creativity, parenting and care.


Artist Meet-Up Seven: Exhibition Review

We explored the MOTHEROTHER exhibition, at The NewBridge Project on Saturday 13th July 2024, and debated some of the questions raised by the work with exhibiting artists Katie Cuddon, Sara Qaed and Kate Sweeney. We also heard from artists Lady Kitt and Rosie Morris who have been involved in developing various dialogues around the show and the work of parents in within the art world.


Artist Meet-Up Eight

On Saturday 19th October we gathered at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead for a day of talks, discussion and activity with special guests Tahmina Ali, Dyana Gravina, Hettie Judah, Lady Kitt, Lauren McLaughlin, Rebecca Morrill, Dr Martina Mullaney and representatives from Helix Arts and The NewBridge project. We considered ideas of sustainability, inclusion and transcending audiences as we Continued the Conversation on Care.
