Tuesday 23rd January 2024 MOTHEROTHER met at The NewBridge Project in Newcastle to explore the shifting experience of artists during the different phases of their caring roles. We considered the variety of adaptations and restrictions which individuals face in building and sustaining their practices. With a focus upon performative practices, we heard from Tahminah Ali, Leila d’Aronville, Chantal Herbert and Lizzie Klotz. Tahmina Ail performed a moving spoken word introducion and the Keynote was delivered by Leila D’Aronville. Through the artist presentations and Q+A we took a closer look at intersectionality and the need for a season of systemic change. Group reflections and discussions were rich as we explored ideas for what change in the sector might look like.
