MOTHEROTHER

Artist Meet Up Seven

We came together to explore questions raised by the MOTHEROTHER exhibition on Saturday 13th July 2024 at The NewBridge Project in Newcastle. We were joined by Lady Kitt who began the session by introducing the dialogue about the show that they produced alongside their children Ada and Finn. Kitt’s working process often starts with a myriad of questions, and it was with these questions recorded within the exhibition booklet that we began, focusing upon those which concentrated on parent and child relationships within creative processes and power structures which impact artists. Exhibiting artists Katie Cuddon, Sara Qaed and Kate Sweeney then gave us an insight into their practices and the works presented in the show. The artists welcomed attendee questions and reflected upon the relationship between their works and their experience of parenthood. Rosie Morris, who was invited to review the show for Corridor 8, summarised their critique of the exhibition, posing additional questions which stimulated further debate. Finally, we took time to gather our thoughts and record our personal responses to the show.
