Launch Meeting Activities

“Power Object” is a phrase used by craftivist Sarah Corbett. It describes a hand-made object which reminds the maker of the power they have to create change both physically & conceptually.

Making these objects (out of paper printed with information about the MOTHEROTHER project) aims to form a backdrop to our conversations about what the project is now, and what it might grow to be. By inviting you to cut up & re-craft the introductory text about MOTHEROTHER, we encourage you to literally dissect it, focussing on specific words and phrases, considering your emotional & creative responses to these, imagining what function(s) MOTHEROTHER might play in your life and what role(s) you might play in the project.

Watch the introductions by Panel Chair Rosie Morris, keynote speech by Hettie Judah and the full panel discussion and Q&A with Sofia Barton, Lady Kitt, Sara Qaed. Please note this is the full, unedited version of the speeches, panel discussion and Q&A, with all the fun blips and glitches. Run time is approx. 1hour and 30mins. You can find out more about the panel by clicking here.

MOTHEROTHER Shrine by Lady Kitt

Artist Lady Kitt created a MOTHEROTHER Shrine dedicated to the idea of needs and wants for, and balance within, the MOTHEROTHER project. Attendees were invited to write post-cards describing their personal wishes for and what they felt they could offer to the project. These were then pinned to or placed into the shrine as a form of votive offering.

“Lady Kitt is a disabled artist and drag king, describing their work as “Mess Making as Social Glue”. Kitt works on long term, collaborative projects driven by insatiable curiosity about how art can be useful. Projects are usually punctuated by the creation of large-scale, vibrant installations / sites for exchange made from recycled paper, reused plastics and raw clay, which Kitt calls shrines.” Fine out more at www.lladykitt.com
